Last Lessons Of Planning
Today we finished of our story boards and shot lists, and we are preparing our props and costumes for when we start filming. We have discussed a range of locations to film from inside college for the green screen to outside college when we will be filming in parks and houses etc.
We are now going to plan our filming days depending on the weather, if It is not good enough weather outside we will use this time to film any inside footage, editing and updating our blog regularly.

Costume Research
This image is an idea that explores the modern style of both the female characters, in the past future and present
events in the video, this dress sense would show that the video is at a present moment
This image shows the costume which alexandra images her future wearing getting married to
eugene, in the video we hope to use future and modern dressing sense.
In the video Kathryn imagines her future with eugene were they have a baby, we thought to use a pram as a prop to

2nd Idea
After much discussion our group has decided to alter our first idea, due to the fact we were having problems and doubts with some of our ideas and if we would be able to do them. There for we have stayed with the same theme but changed what is going to happen in our video.
In our opening scene we are going to have two girls entering two different room but we will see them on separate cuts. We will use longs shot to open the video, but then go into close ups of their faces. They we are going to have a shot of girl number one (Alex) picking photographs up of her and the boy and dropping them down onto the floor at the time of the beat. Then we will move to girl number two (Kathryn) holding a love note/card with a medium shot showing this, than a over the shoulder shot showing the note. When we are cutting our video we will use smooth transitions and at the time f the beat.
At the chorus of the song we will have the girls singing in front of the blue screen so we can put a colour behind them and we will use split screen at some points.

1st idea
1st idea
Our first idea for our music video was looking well but we decided to alter it in certain ways due to the time scale, we had too many ideas so we thought of just creating a new les complicated idea from scratch.
We were going to begin the video with a blank screen were a fade in was going to be used to introduce the character Eugene, then the music would start. Eugene face would appear in a dark background with his face in the middle of the frame, the thought to use some type of special effect to insert a thinking bubble on the right side of his head with Alexandra’s face, and then Eugene would pan left were a thinking bubble with Gabriella’s face will appear on his left.
After the bubbles fade out Eugene would look down, put his hand on his head to connote stress and confusion, and then we would cut to a shot of him slowly tilting his head up and show a yellow thinking bulb at the top of his head to explore how he has an idea.
After the opening sequence we would cut to an over shoulder shot of Eugene sitting at a computer desk and sending an email to Alexandra and Gabriela asking them both to meet him on a Friday.
After this scene we thought to use a blank screen with “FRIDAY MORNING” and the words would appear in a typewriter.
A straight cut to Alexandra dressing, putting on her make up in front of a little mirror, her room is clean and organised, then we would cut to Gabriela dressing in front of a longer slewed mirror, her room looks gothic, she’s appears more messy. We thought to juxtapose both characters against each other, Alexandra is the clean and smart one were as Gabriela would be messy and gothic.
After the dressing scene we would take a long shot of Alexandra walking out of her house getting on her a taxi to go and meet Eugene and we would use a transition to show the past of time and a straight cut to a wide shot of her coming out of the taxi to walk into the café.
While alex would be set at a table eating and talking to eugene, we thought to use parallel editing to cross cut between gabriela walking to the cafe and alex and eugene sitting at the cafe, this would increase the tension between the two female characters. After a few cross cuts between the two scenes we would explore a point of view shot of alex through eugene perspective, we would use a transition to make the frame blurry and slow down time to create a sort of boredom mood, then a quick cut to a wide shot of the table, speed up the time until alex stands up to leave. As alex walks out the frame another quick cut to gabriela getting closer to the cafe, as alex walks out the door she sees gabriela, this split screen would portray the both characters walking past each other with face expressions of anger and frustration.
After that scene gabriela would walk into the cafe and seem to make eugene laugh and enjoy more than alex could. The plan of our first idea ends on this scene
R kelly ft Usher- Same girl
Same girl
The same girl is a song by r Kelly featuring usher, we decided to use this as an additional song analysis to our blog because the video has similar themes to our chosen song. Same girl is about r Kelly meeting a girl, he’s in love with this girl and decides to introduce his good friend usher to her, but this is were the twist begins as usher confesses to be in love with the same girl too.
As the song unfolds usher and r Kelly sing about how the girl has betrayed both of them, their both shocked by this same girl because in the stories they tell and the times they’ve both spent with her they assume it was all fake.
R Kelly gets on his private plain and goes to visit usher were they sing about how they first met her. In the video of our chosen song brandy and Monica argue and debate over one boy, where as the same girl by usher is different in how they both react to the situation. Both videos are similar in the fact that it’s about to people singing about the one person their both in love with.
Usher and r Kelly’s music video is also similar to our own created video in the way that an unexpected twist is conveyed at the end. In same girl usher and r Kelly plan a plot against the girl were usher arranges to meet the girl and r Kelly walks in to surprise her, this plot only goes wrongly when we see that the girl they have been talking and planning this plot against is actually an identical twin. So instead of the girl being shocked, Kelly and usher are the ones who get shocked because the other twin walks in to the date unexpectedly and leaves usher and r Kelly speech less.
This is the official Link for the "Same Girl".

There are many different editing and camera techniques used in this video, which gives us an insight to how we can make our video more effective.
- Split Screen - this used on several occasions in the video. They first use split screen when Usher and R Kelly are speaking/singing down the phone to each other so we can see each character. Also when they are both describing the same girl they have three screen, one showing Usher on the left, the girl in the middle, and R Kelly on the right in different locations.
- Over the shoulder shot – This is used when both Usher and R Kelly are together in the same scene and show each other talking/singing to each other and this is done in a pattern where they will do an over the shoulder shot then change to a medium shot of both characters, then back to an over the shoulder shot.
- panning – is used when both male characters are sat on the floor to show how each other a reacting, and also it zooms in so we can have a closer look at there faces.
- Medium shots and Close ups – medium shots are used often in this video, due so we can both see Usher and R Kelly together. But at points in the video especial towards the end of the video when they are in the grey room, they cut to close up shots of their faces when they are singing.
Production Treatment
The Music Video:
Brandy and Monica – The Boy Is Mine
Duration:
4.00 Minutes
Audience:
Our video will be aged at a female audience between the ages of 15 to 29 years old. However because the song ‘The Boy Is Mine’ was released in 1998 it could appeal to the 30 to 39 generation due to the time period of the song.
Resume:
The genre of the song is R’nB, and the song is about two girls fight over a certain guy and being jealous of each other, however the guy is playing both of the girls. Therefore we are going to base out video on this theme of two girls fight for a boy and imagining what there future would be like with the boy.
Suggested Elements:
The two girls in the video will be wearing casual clothing in the scenes. We will also film in front of a blue screen for where there will be different backgrounds and the singing shots. There will be different costumes and props used in the different shots for example the wedding dress and the Baby Pram.
Recording Days:
We have spent over four weeks planning our video in great detail and changed our ideas over this time. Therefore we will spend around 12days of filming over the space of 4weeks, this is because we will have to use the blue screen whilst in college and film our date/restaurant scenes in the evenings and on Saturdays. Between the times when we will be filming out footage we will have to upload them to our Apple Macs to make sure a footage is correct and see if we have to re-shoot any. If we film our footage in this allocated time it will mean we will be able to edit all out footage to a good quality and complete our CD cover and poster.
Lyrics - The Boy Is Mine
You need to give it up
Had about enough
It's not hard to see
The boy is mine
I'm sorry that you
seem to be confused
He belongs to me
The boy is mine
Brandy:
I think it's time we got this straight
Let's sit and talk face to face
There is no way you could mistake
Him for your man are you insane
Monica:
You see I know that you may be
Just bit jealous of me
Cuz you're blind if you can't see
That his love is all in me
Brandy:
You see I tried to hesitate
I didn't wanna say what he told me
He said without me he couldn't make
It through the day ain't that a shame
Monica:
Maybe you misunderstood
Cause I can't see how he could
Wanna change something that's so good
But my love is all it took
Both:
You need to give it up
Had about enough
It's not hard to see
The boy is mine
I'm sorry that you
Seem to be confused
He belongs to me
The boy is mine
Monica:
Must you do the things you do
You keep on acting like a fool
You need to know it's me not you
And if you didn't know it girl it's true
Brandy:
I think that you should realize
And try to understand why
He is a part of my life
I know it's killing you inside
Monica:
You can say what you want to say
What we have you can't take
from the truth you can't escape
I can tell the real from the fake
Brandy:
When will you get the picture
You're the past, I'm the future
Get away it's my time to shine
And if you didn't know the boy is mine
Both:
You need to give it up
Had about enough
It's not hard to see
The boy is mine
I'm sorry that you
Seem to be confused
He belongs to me
The boy is mine
Monica:
You can't destroy this love I found
Your silly games I won't allow
The boy is mine without a doubt
You might as well throw in the towel
Brandy:
What makes you think that he wants you
When I'm the one that brought him to
This special place in my heart
Cause he was my love right from the start
Both:
You need to give it up
Had about enough
It's not hard to see
The boy is mine
Both:
You need to give it up
Had about enough
It's not hard to see
The boy is mine
I'm sorry that you
Seem to be confused
He belongs to me
The boy is mine
Monica:
Not yours
Brandy:
But mine
Monica:
Not yours
Brandy:
But mine
Monica:
Not yours
Brandy:
But mine
Both:
I'm sorry that you
Seem to be confused
He belongs to me
the boy he's mine

Analysis of music video.
The video we chose to analyze is Timberlake’s ‘What goes around …Comes around’. We chose this video because it is relative in genre to our song choice Brandy and Monica’s ‘The boy is mine.’ It also has the same general themes of love and betrayal.
Technical Aspects:
A lot of fast cuts and parallel editing between Timberlake and the girl shows the link between them.Which cuts away to him singing on stage. They also dissolve from scenes of there past by cutting from intimate scenes of him and the girl together to close ups of his face while he sings on stage. Low angled shots of him look superior. The pauses in the video illustrate the perspectives of the characters explaining the story. Parallel editing to operate a contrast between
The mis-en –scene looks like a 1940’s theatre with massive red curtains and the costumes people wear. There’s also a circus theme with the hula-hoop and fire .All the women have corsets and long sleeved gloves, stockings, hairstyle all vintage Hollywood looking fashions.
The swimming pool scene is the only part that deviates from the glamorous scenes of the theatre but in doing this it follows the narrative of the passionate relationship and theme of adultery. 'What goes around...Comes around' seems to be about a destructive; unhealthy relationship.Which is seen in images of distress and attempted suicide.
